On Monday 7 May 2012 Year 11 music BTEC students accompanied Ms Fairbairn and Ms Quinn Larkin to the Sadler’s Robson in the Graff ZoneWells Theatre in North London for their Breakin’ Convention annual Hip Hop festival.  When we arrived we first went to the Graff Zone where we had the opportunity to design our own tag on a digital graffiti wall and contributed to designs by ArtJaz on a communal graffiti wall.  Next we went to watch a freestyle rap battle in the Mezzanine by Abandoman.  The performance on the main stage began at 6pm and was broadcast live across the world.  It involved a variety of dance styles from contemporary to break dancing. The talent was incredible.

The performances were by:

House That Union Jack Built (UK)
B-Boy Ata (Finland)
Clash 66 (France/Korea)
Avant Garde (UK)
Gemini (France)
ILL-Abilities (International)

The dance group that was really moving was ILL-Abilities.  The dancers all had physical disabilities but this hadn’t stopped them from fulfilling their dreams of being a dancer (click here to watch a You Tube video). They were really inspiring.
