Richmond School Sports Partnership (RSSP) Year 11 Basketball League
Wednesday 7 December 2016
Richmond Park Academy 70 Twickenham Academy 4
The Year 11 basketball team made amends for their disappointing opening round loss to Christ's School with a comprehensive victory over an inexperienced Twickenham Academy team on Wednesday. Following some great mid-week preparation from Mr Iman, RPA started with a great level of intensity on both sides of the ball to completely overwhelm their opponents. The score ballooned to 20-0 in the blink of an eye with some great on-ball defence causing multiple turnovers and a willingness to beat their man up the floor and outlet the ball effectively resulting in a series of lay-ups. Yasin and Teddi proved to be a tough match-up with their size and length inside, dominating the paint and commanding nearly every available rebound.
The second half saw RPA focus on ball and player movement to develop their half court offence for the tougher opponents to come. On defence they were tasked to guard without fouling, concentrating on using their feet to stay in front of their man. This took a great deal of discipline but there were some definite strides made. The whole team contributed to the scoring in the second half, buoyed by a great following on the sidelines. Perhaps the biggest cheer of the game came when Twickenham scored their first basket- as both benches and the crowd to their credit gave a generous and genuine round of applause. RPA played sensible basketball without trying to run the score up but still managed to finish the game with a 66-point lead!
They play Grey Court School at home next Wednesday. Thanks to Kyle and Mohamed K for being on table duty and Mr Iman for coaching!
