Tonight (Wednesday 3 December), Richmond Park Academy (RPA) students will host a special event to launch their latest publication - an anthology of poems book, which has been written by East Sheen Primary School’s Year 5s and is called ‘The Secrets Behind the Creatures”.

RPA Young Publishers is an independent student-run organisation operating within Richmond Park Academy (RPA) that is comprised of a group of Year 9 students (13-14 year olds). Following the success of their last published book – Dare You – the young publishers worked with East Sheen’s Year 5 students (9-10 year olds) to produce this collection of sophisticated and extremely creative poetry.

The ‘Secrets Behind the Creatures’ is a collection of poems and illustrations that were written in just one hour by the Year 5s. The writing was done at the end of a workshop that the RPA Young Publishers team ran, using craft, art, drama and free-writing to get the creativity flowing.

Mr Potapov, an RP
A English teacher who supports the RPA Young Publishers, comments: “This is what I love about being a teacher – the RPA Young Publishers team are a remarkable group of young people. They were fantastic ambassadors for Richmond Park Academy and both our Year 9s and East Sheen’s Year 5s got a huge amount from the workshop. This has been a tremendous collaborative project – I could not be prouder!”

‘Secrets Behind the Creatures’, which allows you to step into a wonderful imagination, will retail at just £2.99 and will be available to purchase at East Sheen Primary and Richmond Park Academy and local East Sheen booksellers (TBC).

Richmond Park Academy must be one of the only schools in the country to have a batch ISBN number!
