National Award for RPA’s, Richmond School Sport Co-ordinator, James Giblin!

RPA are very proud of James Giblin, our Richmond School Sport Co-ordinator who won the highly prestigious national award, English Schools Rugby League Outstanding Contribution to Schools Rugby League 2016 in October. James had been nominated for the London and SE England award for outstanding contribution back in August and was delighted to take that accolade one step further.

James was nominated for his work in the London Borough of Richmond. He leads the champion schools programme for the area and has overseen an increase in school participation in the local area over the past 3 years with the biggest increase in girls’ participation. As well as volunteering to work closely with a few school teams who participate in the Regional and National competitions he also created a strong link between St Mary's University Rugby League and the schools' programme.  This created dozens of volunteer coaching and refereeing opportunities for St Mary's students whilst also enabling schools to use the expertise and experience of those volunteers at training, fixtures and festivals.

We are lucky to have James as our coach for the RPA Rugby teams weekly. RPA have reached the Regional finals with 1 boys’ team and 6 girls’ teams in the past 3 years, with 3 of these teams progressing to the National finals stage. James’ proudest coaching moment was coaching the RPA school team when Joel F first ever played Rugby. He has since gone on to represent South London and secure scholarships with London Broncos Rugby League and Wasps Rugby Union.

As part of his role for Richmond School Sport Partnership, James coordinates and manages sports leagues, fixtures and opportunities for all secondary and primary schools in the London Borough of Richmond. We are very lucky to have him!
