Richmond Park Academy has a sustained partnership with The Royal Ballet School White Lodge. This has involved several yearly trips to the school which is situated a short walk away. Examples of trip and projects are:
- Yearly key stage 3 tours of the school where we are invited to watch lessons, talk to Royal Ballet School students and explore the grounds/boarding houses. This is open to key stage 3. The last trip took place on Saturday 27th November when lower school students were rehearsing for ‘Peter and the Wolf’ to be performed that Christmas at Covent Garden Royal Opera House. This was a fantastic opportunity for key stage 3 students to feel inspired by classical ballet technique and a preview into the discipline needed to train professionally.
- Yearly key stage 4 dance GCSE visits to the annual choreographic exhibitions held at White Lodge. The quality of performance from students their own age or younger is inspirational and often impacts on their progress during choreographic class in increased focus and artistic ideas linked to their chosen dance stimuli.
- Yearly participation in Richmond Schools Project/RichDance where students have collaborated with RBS students and other local secondary schools to produce a sophisticated choreography led by Bim Malcomson (2011) and Lorena Fernandez (2012). This year the project preparation took place during two workshops on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February 2012 at White Lodge. Performances are held at a variety of places including The Royal Ballet School Margot Fontaine Theatre and the Twickenham Stadium Theatre. This year students will be performing at Hampton school on Sunday 18th March 2012.
