RPA's Faraday Challenge team see off the opposition

Six teams from the local area arrived at Hertford Hall with no idea of what they'd be asked to do. This year's Faraday Challenge was revealed to centre around Ben Ainslie's sailing team. The teams of Year 8 students had two hours to invent two pieces of technology that would improve the performance of a sailboat or its sailors and build a working prototype using hardware and a programming language they have never seen before.

The competition was tough but the best team, Richmond Park Academy, won in the end. The winning design measured the amount of pressure being applied to the mast and alerted the boat's crew if the boom was about to hit them. The victorious RPA team will be attending a celebration event at the Savoy next month. This is a superb achievement for the RPA team. Well done to Grace A, Julian B, Kiarash K, Megan B, Hope O and Joseph D.
