Kyrill Potapov, English teacher and founder of the project, led a Kickstarter campaign to crowdsource £1000 to publish the book. Young Publishers, a group of Year 8 students, used the money to buy an ISBN, print 100 copies of the book and develop a marketing campaign.
Over 50 supporters crammed into a section of the school library to listen to piano accompanied readings of some of the pieces from the book. The performances were incredible. One teary parent asked "How could 12 and 13-year-olds possibly find so much depth and control?"
Ian Comfort, CEO of the Academies Enterprise Trust, said, "Every school in England should be doing this."
Young Publishers hope to expand and run competitions for young people across Richmond. They expect at least two additional titles to be published by the end of the year.
