Dear Parents and Carers,

We are considering organising tutoring sessions on Saturdays at Richmond Park Academy from January 2013.  The sessions would be offered free of charge to all students in Years 7 and 11.  Our aim initially would be to provide additional support in the core subjects of English, maths and science.  A good GCSE grade in these core subjects is so important for your child’s future academic and employment prospects, so the government is supporting schools with additional funding to enable all learners to develop strong literacy and numeracy skills; it is through this government funding that we are able to make this innovative offer.  Another important benchmark is the Ebacc so if this initiative is successful, we intend to extend the tutoring to include modern languages and maybe other subjects that parents/students request.

Tutoring would be in small groups of four to ensure individual attention.  The tuck shop would be open so students could buy drinks and healthy snacks, using our cashless fingerprint system.  Students eligible for free school meals would be provided with a “grab-bag” lunch.

We appreciate that weekend time with families is precious, and that many students already take part in out of school classes, clubs and sports on Saturdays.  I am therefore asking for your views on the best time to start tutoring sessions to ensure they are convenient for you and your children. Options are to start at 9am or at 12 noon on Saturdays.  Sessions would be for one hour, and students could attend up to three sessions.

Please let us know if you would be interested in your child attending tutoring sessions, and if so which start time would be better for you.  If you or your child have any other ideas or suggestions you can send them by email to
