Standing ovations for "Poetry by Heart" finalists

posted 25 Jan 2016, 14:36 by Michele Colt
On Friday January 15th, the Year 7
Poetry by Heart finalists assembled in Park Hall for what turned out to be a battle of the titans! One by one, our fourteen performers delivered phenomenal recitals of a selection of poems ranging from Blake to Zephaniah. The  quality of recitals was so incredibly high that they brought our judges, Year 10 Student Council members Shai, Joel, Basmah and Jay, to a standing ovation on a number of occasions. While all finalists gripped the attention of the audience, there could only be one winner. Therefore, it is with pleasure we can announce this year's top three Poetry by Heart contestants are:

First place: Edward Small who recited The Pig by Roald Dahl
Second place: Charlotte Ha who recited Snake by Emily Dickinson
Third place: Vista Letafatkar who recited A Verandah Ceremony by E. A. Markham

Commendations to all the other finalistsPoppy Grieve, Lindsay Torres, Grace Armitage, Helia Ayoubi, Megan Barnes, Kasha Nelson, Oliver Dowden, Felix Mottram, Gwen Chalbot, Leanne Fraser, George Rixon.

A huge well done to all of those reaching the final from Miss Squires and the English department .They look forward to more poetry-related competitions in the future!
