Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to the new school year. I am delighted to be writing this letter as your new Principal. It is always an honour to be asked to take on the headship of any organisation and it is with great pride that I take on this opportunity.

I attended Graveney School, an excellent and highly achieving school in Wandsworth and enjoyed my time there thoroughly. It is quite clear to me that no child’s outcomes should be adversely affected by the school they attend. Schools should be about inspiration, opportunity and students achieving the results that they deserve. I am committed to ensuring that, during my time as Principal, all students at RPA have every opportunity to be successful.

Any new Principal comes into their new school with fresh eyes. It is their job to commend or challenge existing practices and behaviour across the school. With this in mind I have already implemented:
  • A new streamlined behaviour policy
  • Changes to the pastoral care structure
  • In-depth review of the curriculum across all three key stages
  • New accountability measures across the staff team
I can say with some conviction that the GCSE results, although excellent in some subject areas, were not good enough for a school of this size and ambition. I have the highest expectations going forward that this will change as many of the improvement initiatives are implemented. Students can expect:
  • Well planned and structured lessons
  • High-quality feedback
  • Clear steps on how to improve their own outcomes
I am going to need to focus my attention and time on the school over the next few months so please do direct your queries and concerns to the form tutors in the first instance. If you are unhappy with the resolution, then please contact your child's Head of Year, as keeping my eyes on the strategic needs of the school will be vital in securing the outcomes we all desire.

Finally, this school will build on its skills going forward and will be a success. I look forward with anticipation to seeing that huge potential fulfilled across our community.

Kind regards

Paul Mundy-Castle
