Richmond Park Academy 1 Hampton Academy 1

After last fortnight’s heavy defeat at the hands of the impressive Teddington, the Y10/11 team went into their second fixture against Hampton Academy with equal measures of determination and anxiety. The hosts got off to the perfect start with Sam slipping the ball intricately to Leo to round the ‘keeper and tap in with their first real attack. This boosted the team’s confidence, and as Hampton came into the game the reinforced back four of Ariwan, Tristan, Bailey and Michael did a fabulous job of attacking the ball and limiting the visitor’s chances. Any time that the defence was breached Yll came to the rescue, making a string of outstanding saves to keep the hosts ahead. They were caught out once by a diagonal ball which lead to a shot across the goal that Yll somehow managed to parry, but into the path of an attacker who couldn’t miss.

Half Time: 1-1

After some words of advice at half time to help keep the shape of the team intact, RPA looked more solid in the second period. Faiswal did a fantastic job of marshalling the opposition’s best player, and through an excellent save from Yll and a goal-line clearance from Tristan, managed to hold on for a well-deserved draw. In fact RPA could have nicked it with a chance that fell to Hamze from a free kick by Sam. A much improved performance which bodes well for the fixture at Christ’s in a fortnight. They should also be congratulated for playing the game in such a great spirit, representing the school superbly!

Full Time: 1-1

Team: Yll, Ariwan, Michael, Bailey, Tristan, Aiden, Henry, Faiswal, Sam, Alex, Leo, Oscar, Hamze, Omar
