New assessment at Key Stage 3

The removal of National Curriculum levels at Key Stage 3 (KS3) has given us an opportunity to redesign the way we assess and report on progress at KS3. The move away from the use of levels is welcomed, as they were not always used in the way the government initially intended.

The GCSEs that your son/daughter will be starting from 2016 will all be accredited in the new numerical format (1-9). 9 will be the highest grade (an A**), 5/6 will be the national expected grade (an old C+/ B-) and so on. We are going to link our KS3 assessment to this new system so progression is clear and can be measured across the whole 5 year programme. This paper sets out our vision for assessment, and measuring and reporting back on progress, along with our plan for how we will develop our use of assessment over the next few terms.
