On Saturday 5th March 16 girls from years 7-11 ventured up to the Copper Box in the Olympic Park to watch a fantastic game of netball.

The girls, all from the schools netball teams, were eager and enthusiastic to see such high quality netball. The seats were close to the action and lots of them focused on the player that played their position, picking up hints and tips to implement into their own game.

Surrey Storm were playing at home and the crowd was fantastic, showing real support and building the atmosphere before the game. It was a close game with high pressure as Surrey Storm fought to overtake the Mavericks in the league and move up to 3rd position. The game started well with some excellent shooting and defending by both teams. At half time the Mavericks had started to pull away and all the students were immersed in the action! Unfortunately Surrey Storm lost 50-55 but put up an excellent fight.

The students behaved beautifully throughout the day and showed real maturity and interest in the game, I even got asked if I would run the same trip next year! As the students continue throughout their netball season I hope they take on board the hard work, effort and determination that it takes to play netball at a high level, as well as some of the tactics!

Florence in Y9 said," The netball match that a group of us went too on Saturday was really good! We went to see Storm v Mavericks. It was really interesting to see two professionals play against each other. I'm sure that everyone who went would agree that we learnt a lot of new moves and positions that we can now use when playing our next netball matches. A really good experience! Will definitely go again!"
