The Year 10/11 basketball team were pushed to their limit, but managed to keep their unblemished league record intact with a thrilling come-from-behind victory at Christ's. After a disappointing display in the Borough Tournament last week, RPA needed to rediscover their self confidence and resilience in what was a very close match.

As seems customary in school matches, both teams were quiet and tentative in the opening minutes, a symptom of their nerves. Christ's took an early lead from the charity stripe, but both teams traded turnovers and baskets in what was a scrappy first half. Reece and Rokas shared the ball handling duties more effectively thereafter, and Nathan's energy allowed RPA to keep a high tempo and score on the break. Geordan was in beast mode from the tip, protecting the rim at centre, using his length to rebound effectively in the paint and swat shot after shot. Christ's had two fundamentally sound players who kept them in the lead with some strong drives and finishes under pressure.

Christ's took a three-point lead into the fourth quarter as they took advantage of Geordan getting some well earned rest on the bench. RPA still trailed by three when unlikely hero Jordan stepped up and secured a key defensive rebound and made a crucial basket to cut the lead to one with two minutes remaining. RPA began to produce some excellent ball movement, and reversing the ball twice allowed Geordan to cut to the basket and convert the easy lay-up to take a one-point lead. There was still time for a vicious chase down block on Jordan's attempted lay up but RPA managed two excellent defensive stops and sealed the win with another fabulous fast break as the buzzer sounded.

Much tougher opposition await in the next few weeks, but you can't beat a 2-0 start!

Team- Reece, Rokas, Charlie N, Jordan, Geordan, Sholajah, Laith, Nathan H, Nathan J.
