Last Friday saw the start of the Rounders tournaments in the Richmond Borough. With the rain just about holding off we took a Year 8 team consisting of only four Year 8s and some delightful Year 7s.

Year 7/8 Rounders Team
Our first game was unfortunately against the hardest opposition, Grey Court School. With little warm up the girls took a while to find their rhythm and get their throws accurate and powerful enough to stop rounders adding up. The girls then did some great hits but unfortunately were caught out by the excellent fielding abilities of the other team. The girls lost this match 6½ - 2. The player of the match was Danielle who did some brilliant catches, helped lead the team through tactics and scored a rounder for the team.

Our second match was against Hampton who we played recently in a fixture and beat. The girls by now had found their feet and were working well as a team to make accurate passes to the correct bases to stop rounders and half rounders being scored. The Year 8s made excellent progress in the first innings stopping scores and leaving Hampton with only two rounders. The team then went into bat and scored from the beginning with half rounders and full rounders quickly adding to the score board. The girls worked well and ended the game winning 8 - 2. The player of the match was Hazel who played brilliantly in this game.

The third match for the team was against Teddington School who were good competition for the girls. Teddington did some excellent hits which lead to early rounders on the scoreboard but some great fielding work by RPA got three people out on their first hit. The girls then came into bat and were again caught out by the excellent fielding skills of Teddington and unfortunately led to some students getting out early on. The girls worked hard to gain valuable half rounders and consistently try and catch up with the score. Teddington showed exceptional fielding skills and this led to six of our nine players getting out before the end of the innings. The final score was Teddington 4 ½ - RPA 3. The player of the match was Florence who played really well and was an excellent bowler.

TEAM: Danielle, Florence, Amira, Millie, Hazel, Selina, Betty, Maddy, Yashvi, Vera, Eleanor.
