The Juniors Rounders team braved the extreme winds to travel to Hampton for their second match of the season. Due to rearranged fixtures and some wet weather the junior team have unfortunately missed practices and had matches rescheduled. The excited team made up of students from Year 7 and 8 arrived and conducted their warm up with professionalism and maturity, brilliantly representing the school.

RPA were out to field first adapting their positions and tactics accordingly as the match took place on Hampton’s astro turf. With some missed catches and dodgy throws to start RPA soon got into the swing and raised the level of their game. Some excellent bowling from Florence saw Hampton’s team struggle to hit the ball and stopping the opponents from getting any points on the board. As the first innings continued the Hampton team made some great hits and finished batting with  three rounders. As RPA went into bat there were some fantastic hits with rounders and half rounders being scored with ease against Hampton’s basic fielding skills. The end of the first innings saw the score at Hampton 3 RPA 5.

A quick change of bowler and the second innings was under way. By now RPA was into the swing of the game and making excellent catches and fielding decisions to put the halt to any advance Hampton was trying to gain. The second innings saw RPA get four people out and they only scored a rounder; unfortunately due to wind conditions and nerves we also gave away a rounder in no balls leaving Hampton’s score at five. RPA knew they were even and went out with enthusiasm and sportsmanship to try and beat the opposition. Some excellent hits from the girls saw RPA’s lead start to stretch ahead and it was lovely to see the girls cheer each other on and work as a team.

The final score was RPA 9 1⁄2 Hampton 5. All the girls played brilliantly and I was exceptionally proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the game.
