From the Sponsor

The Academies Enterprise Trust believes that all young people deserve to become world class learners – to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment, with the best facilities, the best teachers and the most up to date resources available.

We have a proven track record of working closely with many schools throughout the country to achieve significant improvements in standards, and more recently, in developing a federation of Academies in Essex providing the opportunity for all learners to fulfil their real potential and become active, prosperous and successful citizens.

'Our aim is to promote an Academy which will ‘inspire young people to make their best better.’ We firmly believe we will be able to offer an excellent education through the application of tried, tested and very successful school organisation and an outstanding curriculum.

If approved, the sponsor for the new Academy will be The Greensward Charitable Trust and the Academy would be run by the Academies Enterprise Trust.

Greensward Charitable Trust and the Academies Enterprise Trust

The Academies Enterprise Trust is a charity registered as company limited by guarantee. We are a multi-Academy Trust - the term used by the Department for Education (DfE) – which means that we are able to manage any number of schools and Academies. We have a Master Funding Agreement with the Secretary of State for Education, which gives the main conditions applying to the use of funding for all of our Academies.

The Greensward Charitable Trust, the proposed sponsor for the new Academy for Sheen was the body responsible for the Greensward College, a foundation school based in Hockley, Essex. The College, which has consistently been judged by Ofsted to be outstanding, is now the Greensward Academy. For over a decade, the College, under the leadership of its Principal, David Triggs, had been involved in supporting other schools to ensure rapid and sustainable school improvement.

As part of a Government pathfinder programme, which aimed to evaluate how outstanding schools could transform schools deemed as failing or underperforming, the DfE invited the Greensward Charitable Trust to become a sponsor of Academies. In order to manage a number of Academies, the Greensward Charitable Trust set up the Academies Enterprise Trust as its operational arm.
