Contact with industry professionals
Richmond Park Academy students have multiple opportunities throughout the academic year to have contact with people from industry. Some of these are through their subject lessons and trips, and others through specific career events. Examples of industries we have seen represented in Richmond Park Academy are: Engineers, Designers, Doctors, Nurses, Chefs, Dancers, Sportsmen, Entrepreneurs etc.
During Year 10 and Year 12, RPA students undertake a period of work experience. This will take place between 10-14 July 2017 and will be organised through RPA in conjunction with Kingston & Richmond Education Business Partnership (KREBP) - part of our borough team. We work alongside the team at Achieving for Children to ensure that safe, worthwhile and suitable placements are in place for our students. You can read more information in the letter to parents and carers and in the presentation below.
Students can login to the AfC website to help find a placement, as well as print off Own Find forms if they already have a placement in mind. Ms Pritchard works with students during KS4 and KS5 to ensure they are fully supported to find a suitable placement.
All About Careers have some great tips for specific placement types in some of the industries more difficult to gain experience in.
Extended Work Placements
Extended work placements are sometimes offered to students to support their studies. These placements usually take place for one day per week throughout the academic year, in an industry which the student is interested in. Benefits of placements include: learning key skills; developing maturity, resilience, self-management and supporting the transition into adult life.
